Inopor® filter membranes – efficiency in milk processing

Whether milk, cheese, or butter—inopor® filter membranes are used, for example, in protein fractionation and milk protein concentration. Thanks to their high acid and alkali stability, they also offer great potential for the reprocessing of CIP cleaning solutions.

Preparation of CIP solutions

Clean-in-place (CIP) cleaning systems are commonly used, utilising both acid and alkali chemical agents. Cleaning heavily contaminated equipment, such as heat exchangers and thermal evaporators, consumes large quantities of cleaning solutions, which often cannot be recycled. In various projects, both alkaline and acidic cleaning solutions in different concentrations have been successfully recycled and reused with our ceramic membrane filters. With this so-called SmartCIP system, regeneration rates of up to 95% of the contaminated solutions have been achieved. The reuse of filtered CIP solutions had no negative impact on the effectiveness of the CIP system.

Consumption reduction

Filtration reduces the loss of valuable CIP chemicals, water and energy consumption, as well as reducing effluent load. CIP accounts for a large proportion of water consumption in a milk processing plant. Our robust Inopor® ceramic filtration membranes, as the core element of the SmartCIP system, can significantly reduce chemical and overall water consumption. An integrated filtration system also reduces steam consumption through lowering the heating requirment for detergent solution. Overall, this leads to a significant reduction in operating costs.

Your Challenge
